Reuter's Telegram Company - Indicator Confirmation forms.

Charges for cables/telegrams sent through Reuter's were high. Hence it was necssary to economise as much as possible. Two strategies were commonly employed:

  1. Use a unique Indicator (code) for the address;

  2. Use code words in the message, which were agreed between sender and receiver, to mean several words.

Indicators were applied for and authorised by Reuter's. There were few restrictions apart from non-duplication and the use of improper words and names of companies, people and products

Three Indicator Confirmation forms are known to exist - three from Hobart and one from Melbourne.
